Frequently-Asked Questions

What does your AI FREE icon mean?

It means we don’t use any artificial intelligence (AI) programs, systems and applications in our manuscript assessment and editing processes. We use our own human intelligence, knowledge, experience and insights in everything we do. Our clients who deserve nothing less than our best, most insightful feedback and advice.

The preferred application in the publishing industry for the submission of manuscripts is Microsoft Word which is what Lloyd Moss uses for the assessment and editing of our clients’ fiction and non-fiction works. Of course, Microsoft has recently added artificial intelligence in the form of ‘Copilot’ to its MS Office applications without consulting or seeking their clients’ permission. Lloyd Moss editing and publishing has deleted Copilot from our MS Word application.

The example above illustrates how ubiquitous AI has rapidly become and how Big Tech assumes all their consumers want it and welcome it. Those of us who don’t need or want it are forced to opt out of these AI intruders such as Copilot.

All product and service providers need to be clear about their use of AI or, in our case, their non-use so that our clients and consumers know what they’re buying. So, let me reiterate our commitment: Lloyd Moss editing and publication has not and will never use AI applications to generate any of our services.

Who does the Lloyd Moss logo image represent? How is it meaningful?

The image is Silis Minerva,  a bronze sculpture dug up in Bath, England, in

in modern times (1727) but which dates a very long way back to the Roman

invasion and occupation of England from AD 43 to AD 410.

Minerva was a Roman goddess who protected the arts and crafts, amongst

other responsibilities such as medicine and defensive war. Schrewdly, the Romans integrated the local Celtic deity of Sulis into the cult of Minerva to bring the local population’s beliefs into their fold.

The significance for me is, firstly, as a tourist visiting the Roman Baths in the city of Bath, England, and the Temple of Minerva in Rome near the Pantheon and, secondly, the centrality of the arts and crafts to the lives of the citizens in Rome and across their occupied regions.

After all, what are we humans without our imagination and our enduring compulsion to create and to innovate?

Do you outsource some or all of the manuscript assessment and editing services?

No, we do not outsource to other editors and proofreaders. All these services are conducted and delivered by Lynne Lloyd. You, therefore, know who you are dealing with and who is responsible for the confidential handling of your manuscript. You are regularly informed of its progress.

Do you outsource any parts of your assisted self-publishing services?

Lloyd Moss outsources the design and production of the front cover, back cover and spine of your book. As the author/client, you are informed and consulted about the cover options and you make all the decisions related to it.

On rare occasions, we will outsource the interior design of the book but, prior thereto, we will always seek your permission to take this step.

You have listed the fees for the manuscript assessment and proofreading services on the website, but not for your development editing and copy editing services. Why?

Our professional fees for manuscript assessment and proofreading services are largely based on word length. Both these services involve the editor’s close and deep reading of the manuscript., although the assessment is complex, highly analytical and far more time-consuming than proofreading.

For our development editing and copy editing services, one size does not fit all. Every writer is unique and so it follow every manuscript is unique. The overall word length is only one factor we consider.

Having reviewed a few chapters of your manuscript, we will provide you a firm quotation in writing.

You will be pleased to hear that our professional fees are moderate and affordable. We encourage you to seek other quotations for comparison purposes.

Do you provide editing and publishing services for smaller works such as a collection of poetry, or a book of life lessons and personal philosophy, or a concise autobiography?

Yes, we certainly do. It is rewarding for the author of such works to have their work professionally edited and such a joyful experience to hold their book in their hands and for family, friends and others to read it. Just a couple of recent books we have edited and published in this category are Patrick Mulhall's 'My Thoughts in Words,' and Dr Wendy Bourke's 'Dr Wendy Bourke Christian Psychiatrist. A Life of Faith and Fulfilment.' Both books available on amazon.com.au
