Manuscript Assessment

''Is my manuscript ready to be submitted to publishers?

'Have I overlooked anything?'

'What improvements do I need to make?'

Overview

Do you have questions like the ones above circulating in your head?

Most likely, you have completed the first draft of your book and have self-edited and revised it. Maybe your manuscript is a work in progress and you have reached the classic fork in the road: whereto from here?

Have you received inconsistent and/or conflicting feedback from your early readers? Your family and friends are enthusiastic and encouraging about your writing, but they can't answer your specific questions or give you objective feedback. You wind up feeling frustrated and a little lost. A Lloyd Moss manuscript assessment offers a practical, insightful solution.

What is a Manuscript Assessment?

A manuscript assessment involves a close reading and an in-depth analysis of the key components of your manuscript. A professional book editor provides you with a confidential, objective assessment of your manuscript identifying what is working well and what needs to be restructured or rewritten.

Our manuscript assessment highlights the big picture elements, but will also report on any other pertinent issues.

Listed hereunder are many of the components covered in a manuscript assessment:

Which Categories and Genres are Covered?

For the most part, we work with authors of fiction and memoir, however we also provide manuscript assessments for non-fiction books. We cater for most genres, including historical, mystery, thrillers, crime, true crime, science fiction, fantasy, and young adult.

What our Manuscript Assessment Covers

You will receive a written report summarising our findings from the assessment, our recommendations for improvements and practical advice on how to implement the changes. We also gauge your manuscript's readiness for publication and advise on any editorial processes which may be required.

Our editor will provide personal guidance during a telephone call  to discuss the most critical issues, to answer any questions you may have, and to discuss the next steps.

What our Manuscript Assessment Does Not Cover

A manuscript assessment does not include corrections and comments on the manuscript. These services are provided through our development editing or copy editing offerings. Following the assessment, and after you have revised your manuscript, a professional copy edit is recommended prior to submitting your manuscript to publishers.

Professional Fees

We will provide with a firm quotation in writing for you after we have reviewed your manuscript. In most cases, the following fee schedule for manuscript assessments applies:

"Over the past few months, I have endeavoured to follow a passion of mine: writing. While family and close friends urged on my ambition, it is still important to get an 'outside' view. In other words, someone who is not necessarily obligated to tell you what you want to hear. It is vitally important to get this objective point of view, with clear instructions on how to write a story that will engage a reader.

Lynne helped me on a path of improving my writing which I really did need. I would highly recommend you pursue Lynne's advice and services as it has proved invaluable to me."
